Rhys Wynne-Jones Joins Eden Project Sleep Out to Support Homelessness Charities

Around 80 people bedded down under the canopy of the Link Building at the Eden Project on Wednesday night, 13th November, taking part in the charity’s annual Sleep Out. They were joined by The Pride of Britain Awards 2025 South West Fundraiser of the Year, Rhys Wynne-Jones, marking a meaningful return for him.

A Night to Understand Homelessness

Participants attempted to sleep outdoors between the Biomes to gain a small glimpse of what it can feel like to sleep outside. The event raises funds and awareness for homelessness charities The Amber Foundation and St Petrocs.

For Rhys, known as the Nightchurch Pianist, it was described as a full circle moment. Having been supported by St Petrocs, he has recently found a home, showing the impact the two charities can have.

Attendees heard a stirring performance from Rhys, whose recent sold-out concerts have raised more than £26,000. The evening also included musical sets from Notability Community Choir and Carclaze Voices, along with stories from people affected by homelessness. Chefs from the Eden Project ran cookery workshops for those taking part.

Rhys Shares His Story

Speaking at the event, Rhys said:
“It’s an honour to be invited to such an important event at the Eden Project tonight. Events like this are so significant in helping people who are experiencing homelessness, but also allow people to gain a small understanding of what being homeless is like.

“St Petrocs and the piano saved my life. I made a decision that I wanted to help others who were in my situation and if it wasn’t for St Petrocs, that would not have been possible. With their help, I’ve now got my own home today. I’ll always be there for them and help with fundraising in any way I can.”

Eden Project Reflects on the Event’s Impact

Dan James, the Eden Project’s development director, said:
“Every year the Sleep Out is an example of why our work as a charity matters. Bringing people together at this event to learn about the realities of homelessness and support those affected is so important.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who braved the weather, and to Rhys for joining us. We’re proud to continue to support The Amber Foundation and St Petrocs and are inspired by the difference they make in our communities.”

Why Events Like This Still Matter

Since the Eden Project Sleep Out began, hundreds of people have taken part, raising more than £100,000 for The Amber Foundation and St Petrocs.

Recent figures shared by The Museum of Homelessness highlighted that 1,611 people died while homeless in the UK last year, the highest number on record. Official statistics also show that rough sleeping in England rose by 20 percent last year, while the number of people in temporary accommodation across the UK is at record levels.

These findings underline why events like the Sleep Out continue to be vital.
