‘Bin Your Bin’ Project: Beach Guardian Offers Sustainable Solution for Old Wheelie Bins

Published On: 4 November 2024Last Updated: 4 November 2024By

In an effort to promote sustainable waste management, Beach Guardian has teamed up with Trevisker Garden Centre to launch a unique project aimed at repurposing old wheelie bins in North East Cornwall. This comes as residents prepare for a change in waste collection services starting the week of 4th November, when Cornwall Council’s new food waste collection will begin, accompanied by new wheelie bins and food waste caddies recently delivered to homes.

Repurposing Old Wheelie Bins

With many residents questioning what to do with their now redundant bins, Beach Guardian has stepped forward with an eco-friendly answer. The organisation plans to use the donated bins to sort and store various types of plastic waste collected from the Seven Bays area. The plastic will be organised by colour, type, and size, helping Beach Guardian continue their mission to keep local beaches clean.

How to Donate Your Old Bins

Residents wishing to contribute can leave their cleaned old wheelie bins at Trevisker Garden Centre, Padstow (PL28 8LD). The bins should be placed next to the designated skip for de-wheeling. Any bins that are damaged or not needed for sorting purposes will be sent to Circular 11, a partner organisation focused on recycling. Circular 11 will turn these surplus bins into new products, including picnic benches for Trevisker Community Meadow.

Community Benefits an”d Collaborators

The new picnic benches will be placed in Trevisker Community Meadow, a space used for workshops with schools, socially prescribed groups, and volunteers aiming to support local wildlife efforts. This project is a collaborative effort involving multiple partners, with Beach Guardian extending their gratitude to Circular 11, Exeter City Council, Trevisker Garden Centre, Trevisker Community Meadow, and Odyssey Innovation Ltd for their contributions to making this initiative possible.
