A new music setting for the Mass in Cornish, composed by Mike O’Connor, will be launched at Truro Cathedral during the Eucharist on the Eve of the Feast of St Petroc.

Called the Mass of the Resurrection, the piece is based on Cornish folk song tunes and is believed to be the first setting of the whole Mass in Cornish designed for congregational singing. The name refers to both the resurrection of Christ and the resurrection of the Cornish language.

The service will be led by the Cathedral Choir, but the congregation is expected to join in. The whole service will be in Cornish.

Practice session

A practice of the music will be held the evening before, on Tuesday 2nd June at 7pm at St Michael’s Church, Newquay, for anyone who would like to learn it ahead of the launch.

Free to attend. All welcome.
