The Cornwall Garden Society is gearing up for its much-anticipated 2024 Spring Flower Show, promising a vibrant and enriching celebration of springtime flora.
Set to take place on the 6th and 7th of April at the Exhibition Halls, Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge, the event is sponsored by Cornish Lithium and Goonvean Group, heralding a weekend full of horticultural splendour.
Preparations Underway for a Floral Extravaganza
As the setup week kicks off on Easter Sunday, a dedicated team comprising carpenters, drapers, floral artists, and the Show Committee is set to transform the venue into a dazzling display of gardening brilliance and horticultural know-how. A standout feature this year will be an immersive Cornish garden at the main entrance, showcasing indigenous planting, thanks to the collaborative efforts of garden designer and Show Director, Mark, and contributions from local nurseries and organisations.
Competitive Classes and Trophies
Central to the Spring Flower Show are the Competitive Classes, featuring 158 categories across a wide range of plants and flowers, including magnolias, camellias, rhododendrons, daffodils, and many more. With 41 coveted trophies up for grabs, the competition invites participation from seasoned horticulturists, amateur gardeners, and first-timers alike, making it a highlight of the event.
Horticultural Highlights and Educational Opportunities
The show promises an engaging schedule filled with activities and educational opportunities. Notable participants include award-winning garden designer and TV presenter, Manoj Malde, who will officiate the opening ceremony and share insights from his new book. Attendees can look forward to Tipi Talks featuring a mix of national and local gardening experts, practical demonstrations, and the popular Gardeners’ Questions sessions, offering a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.
An addition to this year’s show is the Careers in Horticulture stand hosted by the Eden Project, aimed at providing visitors with information about career paths, training opportunities, and the diverse roles available within the horticultural industry.
Culinary Delights and More
Complementing the floral displays and educational segments will be a selection of locally-sourced gourmet street food, edible treats, and a full bar provided by Big Pan Parties, ensuring a delightful experience for all senses. Discounted memberships for the Cornwall Garden Society will be available, with proceeds supporting the society’s charitable aims of sharing horticultural knowledge and preserving Cornwall’s garden heritage.
Ticket Information
Tickets are priced at £10 in advance, available until 5pm on the 5th of April, or £12 at the gate, with free admission for under 16s and a warm welcome extended to well-behaved dogs on short leads.
