The Cornwall Garden Society (CGS) is set to host its eagerly anticipated 2024 Spring Flower Show at the Royal Cornwall Showground near Wadebridge, marking a vibrant celebration of Cornwall’s horticultural prowess and the arrival of spring.

Scheduled for Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April, this family-friendly event will be graced by the presence of renowned garden designer and television personality Manoj Malde.

Manoj Malde celebrated for his appearances on BBC’s “Your Garden Made Perfect” and Channel 4’s “Garden Of The Year,” is tasked with the honour of opening the show. Alongside the opening ceremony, he will engage the audience with insights from his latest book, “Your Outdoor Room: How to Design a Garden You Can Live In,” promising practical advice on creating inviting garden spaces.

This year’s show boasts sponsorship from Cornish Lithium and Goonvean Group, underlining a commitment to the celebration of Cornwall’s unique climate and its gardening community. The two-day affair promises an array of attractions, including over 130 growers and garden traders, competitive classes showcasing breathtaking blooms, and an artisan area highlighting the best of contemporary Cornish crafts.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in Tipi Talks, supported by the Cornwall Community Foundation, a series of enlightening discussions featuring a mix of national figures and local experts. Topics range from garden design and biodiversity to soil health and botanical photography. The talks, programmed by Alasdair Moore and initiated by new Show Director Mark Holman, aim to enrich participants’ gardening knowledge and inspire their horticultural projects.

Highlights include discussions by Tim Hubbard on Cornwall’s secret gardens, Kim Parish’s condensed wisdom on garden design, and Henrietta Courtauld’s focus on biodiversity and soil health. Furthermore, Howard Sooley will share his botanical photography expertise, and Mike Nelhams will provide a virtual tour of the lush Tresco Abbey Garden.

The CGS has also organised practical demonstrations and a popular Gardeners’ Questions session, ensuring attendees can gain expert advice on a wide range of horticultural topics. An added attraction for this year is the Falmouth Bookseller’s Pop-up Book Shop, offering a specially curated selection of garden-related publications and author signings.

The show will not only feature an immersive Cornish garden but also introduce a new Grow Your Own space, where Heligan Gardeners will offer guidance on various horticultural matters. This initiative reflects the society’s dedication to encouraging gardening excellence and community involvement in Cornwall.

Tickets for the CGS 2024 Spring Flower Show are available for advance purchase, with a discount offered for early bookings. The event promises to be an inclusive celebration of gardening, with well-behaved dogs on short leads also welcome, ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees.
