Looe to Host Two Firework Displays on New Year’s Eve
Looe is set to welcome in the New Year with two firework displays over Banjo Pier on Wednesday 31st December, offering a full evening of celebrations for families and late night revellers alike.
Two Displays Over Banjo Pier
Each year on New Year’s Eve, the skies above Banjo Pier light up twice.
The family orientated firework display takes place at 6pm, followed by the reveller’s display at midnight.
Both displays are free to watch and there are no tickets required. Organisers are asking people to support the event by donating in the official collection buckets on the night.
Best Places to Watch
West Looe
Viewing spots include Pennyland, which is the quayside area seaward from the Sardine Factory Restaurant, and West Looe Quay itself.
East Looe
The seafront offers clear views of the fireworks. Anyone walking from car parks is asked to be mindful of narrow streets and residential traffic and to keep to pavements.
Access to the seafront is also available via Buller Quay Car Park by walking along the small road between Copperfish and Quayside Fresh, to the left of the red and white barrier, then following the harbour to the RNLI boathouse.
Parking and Access
There are over 1,400 parking spaces in Looe.
Millpool Car Park, which has 950 spaces, is free from 4pm, as is the Riverbank Car Park in East Looe. Both are around a 5 to 10 minute walk from the viewing areas.
Limited parking is available on Buller Quay in East Looe and West Looe Quay. These are pay and display and accept cash, card and the Parkonomy App.
Drivers are asked not to use Fore Street in East Looe, which is traffic restricted. Hannafore should also be avoided, as emergency services have requested the road remains clear except for residents, businesses and holiday accommodation guests.
Travelling by Train
There may be bus replacement services on the Looe Valley Line over New Year’s Eve and surrounding days, following an update received on Boxing Day. Travellers are advised to check the Rail Line website for the latest information.
For those travelling from Liskeard for the 6pm display, suggested services include the 13.58, 15.15 or 16.18 trains to Looe. Return services after the display run at 19.02, 20.42 and 21.55.
Looe Station is around a 10 minute walk from the seafront or West Looe Quay, with pavements along the route.
West Looe Quay Celebrations
There are three ticketed venues in town on New Year’s Eve: Choklet, Hannafore Point Hotel and the West Looe Quay celebrations.
The West Looe Quay events are organised by The Jolly Sailor and Route 2 Events and take place at the Quayside Centre, all under cover.
From 5pm to 7pm, there is a family disco with a children’s fancy dress competition, face painting, bar and BBQ. Tickets are £2 per child for ages 3 to 14, with accompanying adults free.
From 7pm to midnight, the evening continues with a DJ, support act and local band Fractur, followed by The Duskies playing out 2025 ahead of the midnight fireworks. Tickets start from £15 per person, with under 16s free when accompanied.
Tickets can be booked via TicketSource.
Supporting the Fireworks
The two displays cost around £9,000 to stage and rely entirely on fundraising.
Support comes through events held throughout the year, donations from organisations and businesses, collection boxes across East and West Looe and buckets carried by volunteers on the night.
Online donations can be made via Easy Donate.
For the first time, donations can also be made by text:
-
£1 by texting LOOENYE to 70201
-
£3 by texting LOOENYE to 70331
