Brass Band Takes Over Lappa Valley Train for St Piran’s Day – Watch the Unique Performance!
Lappa Valley has celebrated St Piran’s Day in a way never seen before, with the help of St Newlyn East Brass Band and a moving train.
A Musical Journey Through Cornish Countryside
In a tribute to one of Cornwall’s Patron Saints and the county’s rich heritage, around 20 members of St Newlyn East Brass Band climbed aboard a train at Lappa Valley. Hauled by the railway’s flagship engine, Zebedee, the band played a stirring rendition of The Song of the Western Men, also known as Trelawney’s Army, as they travelled through the Cornish countryside.
The train weaved through the historic East Wheal Rose Mine, now home to Lappa Valley’s family leisure park, creating a unique backdrop for the performance.
A Proud Cornish Celebration
Matt Bunt from Lappa Valley shared his excitement about the event, saying:
“Lappa Valley is based in the heart of the countryside in an area steeped in Cornish history. We’re proud of our Cornish roots and we wanted to do something special for St Piran’s Day.
“I believe this is the first time we’ve had a brass band performing on one of our trains. It’s an incredible sight, and when we filmed the video a couple of weeks ago, families enjoying their day out were quite bemused by the goings on!”
Despite the chilly conditions, the band gave a performance to remember, with Matt adding:
“We are incredibly grateful to the members of St Newlyn East Band for volunteering their time and doing such a great job – especially in quite cold conditions. We think they sounded fantastic and the whole experience made us very proud to be Cornish.”
