Ever Wondered How Timber Frames Are Built? See It First-Hand in Cornwall This May
Rare Live Event Offers Behind-the-Scenes Look at Oak Frame Construction
Self-builders, home renovators and anyone curious about timber framing are being invited to a special one-day event in Cornwall later this month.
Taking place on Saturday, 31st May 2025 near Falmouth, the free Live Build event offers a rare chance to see an oak-framed building being assembled up close. The behind-the-scenes experience is being hosted by Carpenter Oak, one of the UK’s leading timber frame specialists.
First-of-its-kind Event in Cornwall
This is the first time Carpenter Oak has opened up a live build to the public. With nearly four decades of experience and a reputation built on bespoke designs, the company has previously featured on shows like Grand Designs.
Managing Director Luke Copley-Wilkins said:
“We’re excited to be hosting our very first Live Build event in Cornwall. The event provides a unique and rare opportunity to stand inside a timber frame project mid-build and get an understanding of how all the elements come together. Hosting this in Cornwall is extra special for us, given our Framing Yard is based in the South West, in Devon. A first for us, we’re looking forward to meeting visitors, sharing expertise and putting the spotlight on a local Cornish timber frame project.”
What You’ll See on the Day
The event runs from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with guided hourly tours. Each tour lasts an hour and is led by Dan Wilson, Design & Project Consultant at Carpenter Oak, and Project Manager Tom West.
Visitors will be taken around the live build site and shown the technical details of the frame in a way that’s easy to understand, even for beginners.
The project being built is a timber frame annex designed for multigenerational living at a farmhouse just outside Falmouth. The layout includes an L-shaped wraparound veranda, forming a courtyard intended to echo the feel of a traditional farmstead.
