Falmouth Harbour has named Nigel Tipple as its new Chair after completing an open recruitment process. His appointment follows nine years of service by Mark Chanter, who spent six years as a Non Executive Director and three as Chair.

A New Chapter for Falmouth Harbour

Nigel brings more than 30 years of senior experience across private and public sector roles. His work has focused on economic and social regeneration, including time with CPR Regeneration in Cornwall and most recently as Chief Executive of Enterprise Oxfordshire. He returned to Cornwall with his wife in 2023 and has also joined the Board of Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change.

Nigel says, “I’m delighted to take on this role at such a pivotal time. Falmouth Harbour has a remarkable heritage and an exciting future. My focus will be on building on Mark’s legacy, strengthening partnerships and ensuring the Harbour continues to deliver value for our community and environment.”

Reflecting on Mark’s Tenure

Under Mark’s leadership, Falmouth Harbour strengthened its governance, championed the marine environment, delivered innovation across its services and improved engagement with local stakeholders and marine industries.

Chief Executive Miles Carden says, “Mark’s contribution has been outstanding. His leadership and integrity have guided us through a very challenging financial period and we have made real progress in the transformation for the Harbour.”

Mark adds, “It has been an honour to serve Falmouth Harbour and work with such committed people. The Harbour is in a strong position and I’m confident it will continue to thrive under new leadership.”

Recruitment Process and What Comes Next

Anna Jay, MD of Public Leaders Appointments, which supported Falmouth Harbour throughout the recruitment, says, “It’s been a real pleasure to work with the Falmouth Harbour Board, CEO and team on this pivotal appointment. We’ve built a strong partnership over the years and I’m delighted to have supported them in finding a chair who will play such a key role in shaping the Harbour’s future.”

Falmouth Harbour operates as a statutory trust harbour, reinvesting all surplus into safety, sustainability and local benefit.
