Falmouth Lifeboats Launched After Injured Walker Reported Near Dodman Point
Both all-weather and inshore lifeboats from RNLI Falmouth were launched on Friday 26th December 2025 after a 999 call raised concerns for a group of walkers near the south Cornish coast.
Call Out on Boxing Day Afternoon
The pagers sounded at 4.30pm on Boxing Day after Falmouth Coastguard received a call reporting that one of a party of walkers had sustained an injury and was at risk of being cut off by the tide.
Both lifeboats launched within ten minutes and headed for Hemmick Beach, close to Dodman Point, with crews facing moderate seas and a north-easterly force five wind.
Coastguard Assessment at the Scene
Portscatho Coastguard Rescue Team and Mevagissey Coastguard were also tasked to the incident. After assessing the conditions, both teams determined that extraction by sea was likely to be too difficult due to local conditions.
At the same time, an HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter had just lifted from Newquay Airport and was diverted to assist.
Lifeboats Stood Down
With the helicopter en route and conditions taken into account, the Coastguard stood both lifeboats down. They returned safely to the lifeboat station by 5.00pm.
The call out served as another reminder that the RNLI remains on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including public holidays.
