Falmouth’s Pink Wig Parade Makes a Splashing Comeback
The popular event was previously cancelled – now it’s back and bigger than ever
A beloved event that once looked like it had taken its final bow is returning to Falmouth this summer, with a new theme and a powerful message.
The Pink Wig Parade is back—reimagined as the Pink Wig Mermaid March—and it’s ready to flood the streets with a sea of pink once more, raising vital funds for The Mermaid Centre, Cornwall’s specialist breast cancer care facility at Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

A New Chapter Begins
Earlier this year, thousands were left disappointed when the popular fundraiser announced it would no longer take place. But thanks to a new partnership between Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity and the Falmouth Town Team, the event has not only been saved—it’s been given a fresh splash of energy.
The parade will now take place on Friday 8th August, marking the opening night of Falmouth Week. Participants can expect the same strong spirit the event is known for, alongside new additions such as a silent disco party led by DeluxX DJs.
Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, said:
“Ladies from across Cornwall and beyond, it’s time to don your pink wigs and march for a cause that matters!”
Power in Partnership
Richard Gates, Falmouth Town Manager, celebrated the event’s return to the town’s summer calendar:
“We’re incredibly proud to see the return of the Pink Wig Parade, and the evening within the marquee, to kickstart Falmouth Week in August, an event that means so much to the community.”
The revival is being supported by Falmouth Town Council, Falmouth BID, Southwest Bars and Events, and the Falmouth Week Committee, in addition to the hospital charity. Richard added that the group is committed to honouring the work of the original Pink Wig Committee.
Raising Funds for Lifesaving Care
Over 1,000 women are expected to take part, setting off from The Greenbank Hotel and marching through the town in support of breast cancer care. Funds raised will go directly to The Mermaid Centre, which offers breast cancer diagnosis and treatment for patients across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Karen added:
“The parade, setting off from the Greenbank Hotel, will set the town alive with energy, followed by a new addition—a silent disco party! Expect an unforgettable night of music, dancing, and fundraising, all to support The Mermaid Centre’s lifesaving work.”
A Farewell and a Thank You
The original organisers, the Pink Wig Committee, have officially stood down after raising over £220,000 for breast cancer causes—including £119,000 directly for The Mermaid Centre since the event began in 2010.
In a farewell message, they shared:
“We would obviously like to wish The Royal Cornwall Hospital Charity Team all the very best with the event. We hope that it continues to be the success that we have worked so hard since 2010 to make it.”
Iain Brown, Senior Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at The Mermaid Centre, added:
“I would like to express our immense gratitude to the incredible movement that the original Pink Wig Committee created… I am delighted that their legacy will continue as the event is delivered by our own Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity.”
Tickets Now Available
The Pink Wig Mermaid March remains a ladies-only event, continuing to offer a safe and empowering space for women to stand together in solidarity.
Karen concluded:
“The Pink Wig Mermaid March is more than just an event—it’s a chance for women to stand together, to support those facing breast cancer, and to make a real difference in Cornwall. Every ticket sold helps enhance care for patients at The Mermaid Centre.”
