Mayor’s Tide Race Returns to Maenporth Beach to Support Pendennis Leisure
Maenporth Beach will come alive with sand, sea and plenty of competition this Sunday 24th August 2025, as Town Mayor Cllr Alan Jewell brings back the much-loved Mayor's Tide Race.
The event promises a day of family fun, community spirit and light-hearted rivalry, all while raising money for Pendennis Leisure, the Mayor's chosen charity for 2025.
A Challenge Against the Sea
Running from 12pm until 6pm, with digging starting at 12.30pm, entrants of all ages will test their skills by building either the tallest mound or the most creative sandcastle. The twist? Each creation must survive the incoming tide.
Prizes will be handed out in both Adult and Junior categories, making it a competition for everyone to enjoy.
Supporting Pendennis Leisure
Funds raised will support Pendennis Leisure, which has taken on the lease of the former Ships & Castles site. Plans are underway for a new leisure centre with a swimming pool, teaching pool and modern, sustainable facilities for the community.
Speaking about the event, Town Mayor Cllr Alan Jewell said:
"The Tide Race has always brought people together – it's about laughter, teamwork, and celebrating our wonderful coastline. I'm thrilled to see it return, and even happier that it will raise vital funds for a project the whole town can benefit from."
How to Take Part
Suggested donations are £5 for adults and £2.50 for children, with all proceeds going directly to Pendennis Leisure. Participants are encouraged to bring friends, family and their own tools to help create their tide-defying masterpieces.
