Teenager jailed for supermarket car park attack in Falmouth
A teenager from Redruth has been jailed for 14 months following a violent attack in a supermarket car park that left his victim with lasting eye damage.
Sentenced at Truro Crown Court
Oakley Daniell, 19, from Wilkinson Gardens, Redruth, appeared at Truro Crown Court on Friday 10th October, where he was sentenced after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.
The court heard that Oakley and the victim were known to each other prior to the incident, which happened outside Sainsbury’s in Falmouth on the evening of Saturday 27th July 2024.
The Attack
At around 8.20pm, the victim arrived at the supermarket with his nan. As he left the store and walked towards her car, Oakley followed him. After a brief verbal exchange, Oakley punched the victim in the face, forcing him backwards.
He then punched him again, knocking him towards the floor, before kicking and kneeing him. As the victim tried to defend himself on the ground, Oakley continued to land further blows before walking away, leaving the victim on the floor.
Ongoing Impact
The victim was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital where he underwent several operations to his eye. Nearly a year after the assault, he continued to suffer from its effects.
Police Statement
Officer in the case, DC Richard Haycock, said:
“This was an extremely violent attack, carried out in a public place which resulted in the victim suffering significant injury for which he has undergone numerous operations.
Oakley Daniell continued to land blows as the victim lay defenceless and it is only through luck that his injuries were not even more serious.
I welcome the sentence passed by the court and hope it demonstrates that violence will not be tolerated in our community.”
