What’s New at Falmouth’s Oyster Festival 2025? Major Changes Revealed

Published On: 15 May 2025Last Updated: 18 May 2025By

Falmouth’s popular Oyster Festival is making a return to Events Square from 9th to 12th October 2025, following a one-year pause to rethink and protect the future of the event. Now, with a refreshed look and expanded programme, it’s back with a clear focus on tradition, food, and community.

A Festival Rooted in Tradition

Held every autumn to mark the start of the oyster dredging season, the festival is a celebration of the native Fal Oyster and the century-old techniques still used to harvest it. Oystermen in Falmouth continue to work the fishery using only sail and oar, keeping alive a way of life unique to the area. It’s thought to be the only oyster fishery in Europe, and possibly the world, where these methods are still a legal requirement.

New Look for 2025

Brand consultant Jaz Cottam worked closely with the organisers to develop a fresh identity for the festival. The new branding features a traditional working boat at its centre, representing the hardworking oystermen the event celebrates. The updated look also includes a new font and a coastal-inspired colour scheme of ‘squeeze of lemon’ yellow, ‘Flushing green’, ‘sail canvas’ cream and ‘salt spray’ blue. These touches will be used across all the festival’s marketing and signage.

Back and Bigger Than Before

After skipping 2024, the event returns to Events Square and will also expand into Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion. Organisers say the changes were guided by the newly formed Oyster Festival Trustee Board.

Visitors can expect the return of festival favourites such as:

  • The Oyster Race

  • Live chef demos

  • The competitive oyster shucking contest

There will also be new additions, including food and drink masterclasses, feasts, live music and family-friendly activities.

More announcements, including the chef and music line-ups, are expected over the coming months. For updates, visit www.falmouthoysterfestival.co.uk or follow the festival on social media @Faloysterfest.
