Richard Tresidder Named Arable Adviser of the Year 2024

Cornish agronomist Richard Tresidder has been awarded the title of Arable Adviser of the Year 2024 at the prestigious Farmers Weekly Awards. The accolade was presented on Thursday, 3 October, at a star-studded ceremony held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London, where industry leaders and farmers from across the UK gathered to celebrate agricultural excellence.

A Career Rooted in Agronomy

Richard, who initially started as a sprayer man, transitioned into full-time agronomy 11 years ago. Now part of Agrovista, he provides advice to 200 farming clients across Cornwall and Devon, from Land’s End to Exeter. His extensive knowledge covers a wide range of crops, including grass, combinables, brassicas, vegetables, and potatoes, making him a vital resource for farmers adapting to Cornwall’s evolving climate and soil conditions.

Leading Sustainable Farming Practices

One of Richard’s key achievements is his work at Brew Farm in Land’s End, where he has successfully guided farmers towards more sustainable agricultural practices. This includes reducing reliance on ploughing and incorporating Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) options, helping farms transition to more environmentally friendly operations.

Tackling Agronomic Challenges in Cornwall

In addition to promoting sustainability, Richard has played a pivotal role in addressing local agronomic issues, such as wireworm infestations in brassica crops and septoria in wheat. His expertise and hands-on approach have earned him a reputation as one of Cornwall’s top advisers in the field.

The award was sponsored by NPZ UK, with actor and comedian Stephen Mangan hosting the event.
