Oscar Wallace-Cook Awarded Cornish Mutual Young Farmer Bursary for Ambitious Dairy Enterprise Goals
In a commendable achievement in the field of agriculture education, Oscar Wallace-Cook, a full-time student, has been awarded the prestigious Cornish Mutual Young Farmer Further Education Bursary. Oscar, who is currently pursuing a Level 3 course in General Agriculture, was recognised for his exceptional ambition and commitment to establishing his own dairy enterprise.
The bursary, amounting to £500, will support Oscar in his educational endeavours, particularly in covering costs associated with his agriculture course. His selection was notably influenced by his dedication to both academic studies and practical work experience, which includes working on a local dairy and beef farm.
Oscar’s aspirations, as stated in his application, are to apply the knowledge gained from his studies at Bicton College towards running or owning a farming business. He expressed a keen interest in becoming a dairy farmer, focusing on direct customer supply. This goal, while ambitious, is driven by his belief in the growing customer demand to know the origins of their products.
Cornish Mutual, known for its expertise in farming insurance, has consistently supported young agricultural talents through its Young Farmer Further Education Bursaries. This year, along with Oscar’s award, three other bursaries were granted to students across agricultural colleges in the South West. These bursaries are a testament to Cornish Mutual’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of agricultural professionals.
Peter Beaumont, Managing Director of Cornish Mutual, praised the high quality of applications received this year. He highlighted Oscar’s ambitious plans and his non-farming background as particularly impressive, demonstrating the inclusive opportunity that these bursaries offer to a diverse range of students.
The Cornish Mutual Young Farmer Bursaries form a crucial part of the Future Farming Programme, aimed at bolstering the agricultural sector in the region. For more information about these initiatives and the bursaries, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the Cornish Mutual website.
Bicton College, where Oscar is pursuing his studies, is situated in East Devon, near Exeter. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the Jurassic Coast, the college boasts a historic Georgian mansion, a commercial farm, and facilities for animal husbandry, veterinary nursing, engineering, and more, spread over 200 hectares of historic parkland. This setting provides an ideal learning environment for students like Oscar, who are passionate about agriculture and its future.
