South West Cinemas to Host Early Viewings of Mark Jenkin’s Rose of Nevada
Cinema lovers across the South West are set to get an early look at ROSE OF NEVADA, the new time slip drama from Cornwall’s BAFTA winner Mark Jenkin.
Early Screenings Planned Across the South West
The film is not due for official release across the UK and Ireland until 24th April 2026 through BFI Distribution. However, plans are being finalised for a series of advance Q&A screenings in Cornwall and other West Country cinemas. These special showings are expected to begin immediately after the Easter 2026 weekend and are set to feature Mark hosting the events himself.
Mark Jenkin says: “It’s fantastic that ROSE OF NEVADA premiered in Venice and has since gone on to screen at a host of international festivals but it’s really important for me that Cornish and regional audiences get the chance to see it as soon as possible and so I’m excited to be personally taking the movie out to local cinemas ahead of the official release.”
Dates for the South West previews are still awaiting confirmation, but the tour is expected to visit around 12 cinemas.
A Ghostly Tale Rooted in Cornwall
ROSE OF NEVADA (UK / 2025 / 114 mins / cert tbc) is the third full length feature written, directed, shot on 16mm Bolex and edited by Newlyn based Mark. Like his award winning films BAIT and ENYS MEN, the new drama uses Cornish coastal locations at its core.
The film stars George MacKay, Callum Turner, Francis Magee, and Cornwall based Edward Rowe and Mary Woodvine.
The Story Behind the Title
The title refers to a fishing boat that mysteriously reappears in its old harbour three decades after being lost at sea. Villagers, remembering better days, take its return as a sign it should sail again. Jobless young father Nick, played by George MacKay, and enigmatic drifter Liam, played by Callum Turner, join captain Murgey, played by Francis Magee, for the journey.
When they return with a successful catch, time has shifted. The once quiet harbour is suddenly bustling and the men are treated as if they are the original crew.
Cornwall at the Heart of the Production
The film is produced by Denzil Monk for Bosena. It was developed with Film4 and co financed by the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding, and Film4.
More details on the preview dates are expected soon.
