Rick Stein’s Mixologist Releases His Own Whisky After Major Competition Win
Bartender Norbert Drozdowski, from Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, has taken the whisky world by storm. After winning the prestigious Nc’nean Creations cocktail competition, Norbert is celebrating with the release of his very own whisky, a limited-edition single cask bottling named Aon 20-189.
A Unique Whisky Collaboration
The whisky, created in partnership with Nc’nean, a pioneering organic Scotch whisky distillery, is the brand’s first-ever ex-white Port finish. Selected by Norbert for its exceptional flavour profile, Aon 20-189 offers a blend of spiced orange, chocolate hazelnut, and cedarwood notes. Only 258 bottles of this 54.2% ABV single cask whisky are available, priced at £89.95 exclusively on ncnean.com.
Norbert explained his inspiration: “It was my coastal home, admiration of nature’s true beauty, and my cocktail-making skills that encouraged me to enter the competition. Living in Cornwall inspires me every day to take steps toward a more sustainable lifestyle.”
Triumph in the Nc’nean Creations Cocktail Competition
The Nc’nean Creations competition, led by Nc’nean’s Blender and Brand Ambassador Matthew Hastings, is one of Europe’s most sought-after cocktail contests. Open to bartenders across the UK and Europe, the competition challenged entrants to create innovative cocktails using a hero ingredient while minimising waste.
Norbert’s winning cocktail, Triple Bananas, showcased his creativity and commitment to sustainability, featuring three banana-based ingredients and a banana jelly garnish. His success earned him a three-day trip to Nc’nean’s distillery on Scotland’s west coast and the opportunity to select a single cask whisky under his name.
Matthew Hastings praised Norbert, stating: “This year’s champion, Norbert, exemplifies what we look for at Nc’nean: innovation, adaptability, and consideration. His single cask selection is a real treat.”
