Prestigious win for brewing talent based in Cornwall and Bath

Georgina Young, Brewing Director at St Austell Brewery, has been crowned Brewer of the Year by the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group (APPBG), receiving the honour at their annual dinner earlier this month.

The award recognises outstanding brewing expertise along with broader contributions to the beer industry, including community engagement and mentoring future brewers.

A respected figure in British beer

Georgina has led production at St Austell Brewery for the past five years, taking on the role of Brewing Director in 2020. She oversees brewing operations at both of the company’s sites in St Austell and at Hare Brewery in Bath.

Rita King, Honorary Secretary of the APPBG, said:
“Georgina was a standout candidate and a truly deserving winner of this year’s award. Her dedication to brewing, her innovative spirit, and her passion for educating and welcoming others into the industry are highly respected across the beer community. When we speak to people about influential brewers, Georgina’s name is often mentioned as an inspiring figure whom many admire.”

Georgina joined St Austell Brewery in May 2019, leaving her role as Head Brewer at Fuller’s to return to her West Country roots. She has continued to earn international acclaim for the brewery’s popular beers including Proper Job, Tribute, and korev.

Award-winning beers and industry impact

Among Georgina’s recent successes is the launch of St Austell Brewery’s first no and low alcohol beer, Proper Job 0.5%, which has already collected awards just nine months after launch. She also released a canned version of her pale ale, Anthem, brewed using 100% British ingredients.

Reacting to the award, Georgina said:
“I’m incredibly proud to have been given this award, which I was truly not expecting. It is a real privilege to be a brewer at St Austell Brewery and to be able to collaborate with such talented individuals across the industry.
“Together, we are committed to celebrating great British beer, inspiring the next generation of brewers, and advancing sustainable practices in an ever-evolving world.”

A growing list of honours

This latest award follows several others recognising Georgina’s influence in the beer world. In 2025, she was voted Brewers’ Brewer of the Year at the SIBA Business Awards. The previous year, she picked up Brewer of the Year at the Guild of Beer Writers Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Brewer’s Congress.

She also plays a vital role behind the scenes as a trustee of the Chartered Institute of Brewing & Distilling and a member of the Worshipful Company of Brewers. At St Austell Brewery, Georgina serves on the Sustainability Steering Committee, where she champions energy-saving and environmentally responsible efforts to help the business meet its goal of reaching net zero ahead of 2050.

Parliamentary recognition of brewing excellence

The APPBG’s Annual Beer Awards Dinner has celebrated the UK’s beer and pub sector for over 30 years. This year’s event welcomed 170 attendees, including 70 MPs and peers.

The APPBG exists to promote the enjoyment of beer and highlight the cultural, social and economic importance of the pub. It also works to support the success of UK brewing at home and abroad.
