Travellers Rest Inn Reopens: What’s Changed Since Christmas?
The Travellers Rest Inn, a 16th-century coaching inn at the junction in Trevarrian, has reopened for the first time since Christmas 2024. Partnering with St Austell Brewery, the historic pub is welcoming guests once again with its old-world charm, a freshened-up Snugg, and a menu that even caters to dogs.
A Historic Coaching Inn With Modern Comforts
Located on the Newquay-Padstow road, the Travellers Rest Inn has long been a stopping point for travellers. The building’s wood-beamed and slate-flagged bar area creates a traditional country pub atmosphere, offering a mix of upholstered benches, wooden chairs, and bar stools to suit every visitor’s preference.
Beyond the bar, the Snugg has been restored, bringing 300-year-old floorboards and a 16th-century fireplace back to life. The solid stone walls, which once made it a favourite drinking spot for those stationed at the nearby RAF St Mawgan, now provide a peaceful retreat from modern life, even as Newquay Airport planes pass overhead.
Food, Drinks, and Even a Doggy Menu
The inn serves high-quality food, with chefs preparing seasonal dishes using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. A weekend carvery, which remains at last year’s prices, is particularly popular, and booking ahead is advised.
A unique feature of the Travellers Rest is its dog-friendly menu, which includes starters, mains, doggy ice creams, and even dog-friendly beer – allowing furry companions to dine alongside their owners.
Entertainment and Events
The pub retains its community-focused entertainment, hosting a traditional pub quiz, pool tables, and dart boards. Two pool teams compete with others from across Cornwall, and live entertainment is set to return in the spring and summer.
For larger gatherings, the inn’s spacious family room provides an option for both social and business events, making it a versatile venue for everything from casual get-togethers to corporate meetings.
A Place to Stay and Unwind
Just five minutes from Newquay Airport, the Travellers Rest Inn offers more than just food and drink – it provides a peaceful escape. With high-spec glamping pods available, visitors can enjoy a break from the hustle of daily life, listening to the sound of the shoreline as they drift off to sleep.
As the new owners say, in Cornish “Dynnargh” and in Irish “Céad Míle Fáilte” – a hundred thousand welcomes.
