Could You Help Save Lives Without Going to Sea? RNLI Needs Volunteers in South East Cornwall
Fowey RNLI is calling for volunteers to join their Water Safety Volunteer team, offering an opportunity to help prevent drowning and save lives without having to step onto a lifeboat.
What’s Involved?
The RNLI is recruiting for two key water safety roles in Fowey—Water Safety Officer and Water Safety Adviser. Both positions play a crucial part in reducing preventable deaths and incidents along the coast and inland waterways.
“You might already be involved in the RNLI or be new to the organisation, all applications are welcome and training will be provided,” the RNLI stated.
These roles focus on educating the public, delivering vital water safety advice, and working with local communities to help people enjoy the sea safely.
Water Safety Officer – Fowey
The Water Safety Officer is responsible for developing and implementing Water Safety and Lifesaving Plans to target high-risk groups and reduce incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement Water Safety and Lifesaving Plans for the local area
- Lead water safety meetings and represent water safety within the RNLI Operations team
- Coordinate safety interventions and community engagement
- Monitor and report on water safety activity
Who Should Apply?
This role is suited to someone with experience in coastal or inland waterway environments, along with strong organisational and analytical skills. Candidates should also have:
✔ Good IT literacy
✔ Supervisory experience
✔ Understanding of risk management

The Water Safety Adviser works within the community to actively promote RNLI safety messages and engage with the public to improve awareness.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide RNLI Water Safety advice to the public

- Build relationships with local stakeholders and partners
- Attend regular water safety meetings
Who Should Apply?
This role is ideal for those with a passion for water safety and a keen interest in engaging with the public. Experience in public speaking or presenting is desirable.
