Dog on Cliff Sparks Early Morning Call-Out – Lifeboat Crew Stood Down Last Minute
Rescue Teams Rush to Readymoney Cove
At 4:43am on Monday 14th April, Falmouth Coastguard requested help from Fowey RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crew after a dog became stuck on the cliff face at Readymoney Cove.
Two coastguard rescue teams were already on scene attempting to reach the dog, and the inshore lifeboat was being prepared for launch to provide assistance from the water.
Lifeboat Launch Called Off
Just moments before entering the water, the inshore lifeboat crew were told by Falmouth Coastguard to stand down. The coastguard teams on the cliff confirmed the rescue had been successfully completed without needing support from the lifeboat.
RNLI Issues Safety Reminder for Dog Walkers
The RNLI has reminded dog owners to stay safe when walking near cliffs or water. Their advice is to keep dogs on a lead when near cliff edges or fast flowing rivers, and to avoid going in after them if they get stuck in mud or water.
“Move to a place that your dog can get to safely and call them, they will probably be able to get out by themselves. If you’re worried about your dog, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
