Fowey’s Favourite Bakery Gets a High-End Makeover – What’s Changed?

Cornish Bakery in Fowey has reopened its doors after a £110,000 refurbishment, offering a refreshed look, expanded seating, and a range of new treats. The Fore Street location, which has been a key part of the town since 2018, was closed for two weeks for a full interior and exterior renovation. The revamped bakery officially reopened on Monday, 10th February.

A Bigger, More Stylish Space

The bakery’s striking new exterior is now painted in ‘Boringdon Green’ from Little Greene, making it stand out along the cobbled high street. Inside, the seating capacity has increased from 12 to 18, with comfortable window seats and relaxed dining chairs added for a cosier atmosphere. The new oak timber flooring, marble countertops, and a colour scheme of pastel greens, orange, and cream give the space a fresh, high-end feel.

“We feel incredibly lucky to be based on the cobbled high street of Fowey, alongside a great selection of businesses and after many years there, it was time for a revamp,” said Cornish Bakery’s managing director, Mat Finch.

New Bakes and Better Coffee Service

The refurbishment isn’t just about looks – the bakery’s menu has expanded. A new window display highlights an array of cakes and viennoiseries, including two new additions:

  • Twice-baked Pistachio Croissant – stuffed with homemade frangipane and pistachio cream
  • Shakshuka Croissant – filled with spiced roasted peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, and cheesy béchamel sauce

With coffee being the bakery’s best-seller, an additional coffee grinder has been added to speed up service, offering a wider selection, including a caffeine-free option from Union.

“Over time, our brand has changed significantly, our product range has evolved into a more fulsome bakery experience and coffee has become our best seller,” Mat added. “Bakery is the new coffee shop, and we are at the forefront of this.”

A Celebration of Cornish Craftsmanship

Cornish Bakery remains committed to supporting local talent, featuring wall lights and pendants from Cornwall-based Studio Haran and artwork from South West artists including Cat Charman, William Luz, Sophie Harding, Ella Carty, and A-Side Design.

The bakery continues to sell its award-winning pasties and sausage rolls, praised by The Times’ food reviewer Giles Coren, alongside its handmade Cornish pasties, daily crafted viennoiseries, and cakes.

Open Daily

Fowey Bakery Manager Rebecca Travers and her team are ready to welcome customers every day from 8am – 5pm.

“I am confident this is now the premium space and experience for both residents in, and visitors to, the picturesque town of Fowey,” said Mat. “We’re looking forward to welcoming customers, new and old, into our beautiful new Cornish location.”
