Get Ready for an Action-Packed Fowey Lifeboat Week 2024!
Fowey is gearing up for an exciting series of events as part of Fowey Lifeboat Week 2024.
With a packed schedule from 28 July to 4 August, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while supporting the brave volunteers of the RNLI.
Kicking Off with Music and Quizzes
The festivities start on Sunday, 28th July with a live performance by the Polperro Wreckers on Fowey Town Quay at 7pm. For those who enjoy a bit of friendly competition, Tuesday, 30th July features a quiz night at the Safe Harbour Inn, beginning at 8pm.
BBQs and Auctions
On Wednesday, 31st July, the Royal Fowey Yacht Club will host a BBQ with live music and a charity auction on their waterside terrace. Non-members are welcome, and tickets can be purchased directly from the club.
Celebrating 165 Years of Lifesaving
A major highlight of the week is the opening of the Fowey Lifeboat 165 Year Exhibition on Thursday, 1st August. Held in Fowey Town Hall, the exhibition will run from 11am daily until Sunday, 4th August. Visitors can explore photos, memories of Fowey’s lifesaving crews, a model lifeboat, and other lifeboat memorabilia. Additionally, the winner of the children’s lifeboat art competition will be on display.
Also on Thursday, there will be a nationwide photo event, “One Moment, One Crew,” featuring lifeboat volunteers on the lifeboat pontoon at 6.24pm.
A Packed Friday Evening
Friday, 2nd August promises a lively evening starting with lifeboat tours on Town Quay from 5pm to 6.50pm. This is followed by a Lifeboat Dedication Ceremony at 6.50pm. From 7pm onwards, there will be music, activities, food, and refreshments on Town Quay. At 7.45pm, Joey The Lips, known as the nation’s funkiest 10-piece band, will perform live. The night will culminate in a spectacular firework display over Fowey Harbour at 9.45pm, sponsored by Horizon Home Improvements & Architectural Glazing.
Lifeboat Day Extravaganza
Saturday, 3rd August is designated as Lifeboat Day, featuring music, activities, beer, Pimms, strawberries and cream scones, and more lifeboat tours from 10am to 3pm. A working model of the Trent lifeboat will be demonstrated at 1pm, followed by the Float-a-Fender Race in the harbour at 2pm. Participants can decorate a fender at the lifeboat station or bring their own. Winners of the race will receive a powerboat taster session prize from Fowey Gallants Sailing Club Tuition. The day wraps up with a Grand Prize Draw at 3pm.
