Fowey Crew Called Out for Second Time This Week

Fowey RNLI volunteers faced their second call-out of the week on Wednesday 22nd January, after receiving a request from Falmouth Coastguard to investigate a potentially unmanned inflatable kayak spotted near Carlyon Bay cliffs.

The D class lifeboat was launched at 3:15 pm following a report from a member of the public. The sighting of a blue inflatable kayak raised concerns about whether someone might have recently been in the water.

Search Operation with Coastguard Team

Upon arriving at the location, the Fowey crew conducted a thorough shoreline and inshore search. St Austell Coastguard Rescue Team joined the efforts to locate the kayak. Despite their extensive search, no kayak was found in the area.

At 4:00 pm, the lifeboat crew rendezvoused with the coastguard team, and it was determined that the incident was a false alarm with good intent.

A Serendipitous Encounter

While returning to the station, the crew enjoyed an unexpected treat as dolphins accompanied them on part of their journey.

The Fowey RNLI team continues to dedicate their efforts to ensuring safety at sea.
