South West Water Completes Essential Fowey Water Network Upgrade

Fowey residents can now enjoy improved water quality and reliability following the completion of a significant upgrade to the town’s water network by South West Water.

This £270,000 project saw the replacement of an aging section of cast iron pipework, which had been in place since the 1960s, with a modern polyethylene pipe. The upgrade is part of a larger programme of improvements being rolled out across the region.

A Key Upgrade for Fowey

The work, which took place along the B3415 leading into Fowey, involved the replacement of 800 metres of pipe. This crucial upgrade is expected to enhance the reliability of the water supply for the town’s residents, ensuring they receive high-quality drinking water.

South West Water made efforts to ensure that the project had minimal impact on the community. By limiting the amount of excavation work required, the company was able to complete the upgrade without disrupting the water supply to local homes and businesses. This approach also helped to speed up the overall process.

Investing in the Future

This project in Fowey is part of a much broader investment plan by South West Water, which is committing a record £2.8 billion to upgrading its infrastructure over the next five years. This ambitious plan has been praised by the water industry regulator, Ofwat, as ‘outstanding’.

Apostolos Grammatopoulos, Project Manager for South West Water, emphasised the importance of this work for the local community. “We’re confident this new pipeline – an essential upgrade to our local water network in Fowey – will deliver the best quality drinking water which we know is important to the area’s community,” said Apostolos.

Community-Focused Approach

Before commencing work, South West Water engaged with local residents to reduce the potential impact on the community. This consultation process ensured that the project was carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption.

With the completion of this upgrade, Fowey’s water network is now better equipped to meet the needs of the community for years to come. The project represents a significant step in South West Water’s ongoing efforts to improve water infrastructure across the region.
