Spectacular Fireworks and Soulful Tunes: Joey the Lips to Headline Fowey RNLI 200 Celebration
Fowey RNLI Marks Bicentennial with Music and Fireworks
Fowey RNLI is set to host a spectacular celebration event on Friday, 2nd August, featuring the renowned band Joey the Lips. This event, part of the Fowey Lifeboat Week, promises an evening of live music, delicious food, and a breathtaking firework display.
Event Highlights
The festivities will kick off at 5pm on Fowey Town Quay, where the Fowey lifeboat will be moored and open for public tours. This unique opportunity allows attendees to explore the lifeboat and learn more about the life-saving work of the RNLI. At 6.50pm, a lifeboat dedication ceremony will take place, honouring the contributions and achievements of the RNLI over the past 200 years.
Joey the Lips Performance
The main attraction of the evening is the performance by Joey the Lips, a 10-piece band known for their high-energy Soul, Funk, Blues, and Motown sound. Starting at 7.45pm, Joey the Lips will bring their dynamic performance to Fowey Town Quay. The band has a distinguished history, having played at major festivals across the UK and Europe and supported famous acts such as UB40, Gabrielle, The Hoosiers, and Bananarama.
Cathy Baillie, the Fowey Lifeboat Press Officer, expressed her excitement about the event, highlighting the band’s energetic performance as a fitting tribute to the RNLI’s 200th anniversary.
Fireworks Display
The evening will culminate in a spectacular firework display at 9.45pm. Fireworks will be launched from a barge in Fowey Harbour, ensuring that spectators on both sides of the river, in Fowey and Polruan, can enjoy the show. This dazzling finale is generously sponsored by Horizon Architectural Glazing.
Community Effort and Sponsorship
The celebration event is made possible through the generosity of numerous sponsors. Platinum sponsors include Fowey Harbour Commissioners, Imerys, and Toms Boatyard Polruan. Other supporters such as Bristol Private Office Services, Four Turnings Garage, Mor Interiors, Niles Bakery, and Richards Fruit and Veg have also contributed to the event’s success.
A special stage for the event has been created by Fowey RNLI volunteers, who upcycled an old pontoon and topped it with a canopy made from donated sails. Additionally, limited edition reusable cups will be available for a donation, which can be used to purchase refreshments from local pubs.
