Two Emergency Call-Outs in Two Days for Fowey RNLI Crew
Fowey’s volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew responded to two separate incidents over the weekend, with the first happening in the early hours of Friday, 20th September, and the second on Saturday, 21st September.
Jet Boat Rescued Near Gribbin Head
On Saturday morning, the coastguard requested the launch of Fowey’s all-weather lifeboat at 9:45am to assist a 14-foot jet boat that had broken down off Gribbin Head. The vessel was drifting dangerously close to the rocks when the lifeboat crew arrived.
Upon reaching the scene, they found that a nearby fishing boat had already intervened and moved the stricken vessel out of immediate danger. The lifeboat crew then took over and towed the jet boat back to safety in Fowey harbour. Safety advice was given to the two people onboard, and Fowey Harbour Patrol towed the boat back to its moorings.
Early Morning Call-Out to Talland Bay
At 2:25am on Friday, the lifeboat crew was requested to launch to assist with an incident in the water at Talland Bay. However, just minutes after setting off, the crew was stood down and returned to their mooring. Other emergency services were already handling the situation.
These call-outs highlight the ongoing dedication of Fowey’s RNLI volunteers, who remain on standby to respond to emergencies around the clock.
