You Won’t Believe Who’s Coming to Cornwall’s Fowey Festival This May
Huge names from literature, politics and music set to appear at the newly rebranded event
A star-studded line-up including Sir Michael Morpurgo, Joanne Harris and John Suchet is heading to Cornwall for this year’s du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival.
The festival, now in its 27th year, runs from 9th to 17th May and has been rebranded to celebrate the legacy of Daphne du Maurier, the novelist who once called Fowey home.
Big names from books, broadcasting and politics
Sir Michael Morpurgo will speak about Spring and Cobweb, his two latest titles, on 10th May from 4–5pm. Joanne Harris will take to the stage to discuss Vianne, the prequel to her bestselling novel Chocolat, on 15th May from 6–7pm.
Historical fiction author Alison Weir will explore the life and legacy of Thomas Wolsey on 12th May from 8–9pm.
Political figures are also making appearances, with Sir Graham Brady, former chair of the 1922 Committee, talking about his new book Kingmaker on 10th May from 6–7pm. Former Labour minister Alan Johnson will discuss Harold Wilson on 12th May from 6–7pm, while festival patron Iain Dale is set to speak about Margaret Thatcher on 10th May from 2–3pm.
John Suchet, known for his work on screen and radio, will share how Beethoven’s music has influenced his life on 17th May from 6–7pm. Royal historian Kate Williams will present untold stories about Britain’s palaces on 13th May from 6–7pm, and Dr Tessa Dunlop is due to talk about her latest book Lest We Forget on 11th May from 6–7pm.
Music, gardens and more
Alongside the literary and political talks, the festival will feature live music, an art trail and visits to secret gardens.
Acts confirmed include Mad Dog McCrea on 9th May from 8–10pm, Company B on 14th May, Take a Chance on Us on 15th May, and Gigspanner Trio on 11th May, all performing from 8–10pm.
