Police Fund New Sensory Board for Gunwalloe Playfield Using Seized Criminal Cash

Children visiting the playfield in Gunwalloe can now enjoy a new sensory board, thanks to funding from money seized from convicted criminals.

£500 boost for inclusive play

Neighbourhood officers in Helston awarded £500 towards the purchase of a colourful, interactive board designed to provide stimulating and engaging play for children with learning disabilities.

“The playing fields are a central hub in the community and used by many children, holiday makers and families from across neighbouring areas,” said Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Julia Berry.

“I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to support the local committee in adding this new piece of equipment which can be enjoyed by all. And, that we were able to use ill gotten gains to help fund it.”

Community appreciation

Debbie, a representative from the committee in Gunwalloe, said: “With thanks to PCSO Julia Berry for her support, a lovely piece of equipment has been added to the playing field for all to enjoy.”

Turning crime funds into community support

The £500 was awarded from the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) fund, which contains money seized from convicted criminals who are often those who have caused significant harm in communities.

Police in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly continue to support groups, projects and charities in the local area.
