Essential Gas Upgrade Work to Begin in Hayle From 15th September
Wales & West Utilities will soon begin essential upgrade work on the gas network in Hayle, with traffic lights, bus stop suspensions and road closures expected across the town from mid-September until just before Christmas.
When the works start
The programme of works begins on 15th September in the Fore Street area. Barring any engineering difficulties, the company aims to finish before Christmas.
Wales & West Utilities say the upgrades are vital to keep gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses for generations to come.
Road closures and traffic management
The gas emergency and pipeline service has worked with Cornwall Council to agree traffic management throughout the project. This will include:
-
Two-way traffic lights on Commercial Road (15th – 26th September)
-
Two-way traffic lights on Fore Street (15th September – 24th October). During this time, the bus stop will be suspended and the pedestrian crossing will not be in use
-
A road closure on Lower Church Street (29th September – 10th October)
-
A road closure on Chapel Lane (13th – 24th October)
-
Rolling traffic lights along Market Square onto Copper Terrace (27th October – 19th December). During this time, bus stops will be suspended as works progress
-
A road closure on Pond Walk (8th – 19th December)
Wales & West Utilities statement
Natalie Raphael, who is managing the work, said:
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider Hayle area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
