A milestone moment for the UK charity as The Duke of Gloucester accepts patronage

The Cinnamon Trust has announced that His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO has officially accepted the role of Patron, following a visit to the charity’s headquarters in early July.

The visit marked the 40th anniversary of the charity, which is dedicated to supporting older people, the terminally ill and their beloved pets. During his time at the headquarters, The Duke met with staff, trustees, volunteers and their animals, gaining a deeper understanding of the work that connects communities across the UK through compassion and care.

A first in the charity’s four-decade history

The Royal appointment is a first for The Cinnamon Trust. While Dame Virginia McKenna DBE and Sir Paul McCartney have both supported the charity as Patrons, The Duke of Gloucester becomes the Trust’s first Royal Patron.

Patrick Williams, CEO of The Cinnamon Trust, said:

“We’re honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester as our first Royal Patron. His acceptance marks a significant milestone for The Cinnamon Trust, recognising the compassion and dedication that has shaped our work over the past 40 years. We’re confident that His Royal Highness’s Patronage will help us extend our reach and support even more people and their beloved companions.”

Looking to the future

The visit in July provided a meaningful insight into the work behind the scenes, with The Duke engaging directly with the team and those supported by the charity. His Royal Highness’s decision to accept the role followed an invitation from Patrick, made during the anniversary celebrations.

The Cinnamon Trust hopes this Royal recognition will highlight the importance of the charity’s mission and the enduring legacy of care it has built over four decades.
