Free Passes to Celebrate Social Enterprise Day

In celebration of Social Enterprise Day on 21st November, Better leisure centres across Cornwall are offering free one-day passes to non-members for an open weekend on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th November.

Activities for Everyone

The free passes grant access to a variety of activities, including gym sessions, fitness classes, family swimming, and swimming taster sessions designed for all ages.

James Curry, Head of Service for GLL in Cornwall, highlighted the opportunity: “The Open Weekend is a wonderful opportunity to visit your local leisure centre for free and discover what’s on offer.”

Promoting physical and mental well-being, James added, “Healthy bodies and healthy minds are synonymous so we cater for all ages – from the very young to older, more mature people who may be living with long-term health conditions.”

Cornwall’s Refurbished Leisure Centres

Better leisure centres are operated by GLL, a not-for-profit workers’ cooperative that runs nine facilities on behalf of Cornwall Council. These centres, located in Bude, Saltash, Liskeard, Bodmin, St Austell, Newquay, Truro, Helston, and St Ives, have recently been refurbished with new equipment, vibrant colour schemes, and enhanced facilities.

Swimming plays a key role in the weekend’s offerings. As James explained, “The importance of learning to swim in a county like ours cannot be underestimated and that’s why we’ll be providing free swim school tasters for adults and children throughout the weekend.”

Don’t Wait for January

Encouraging an early start to fitness goals, James said, “Fitness shouldn’t be left until January – especially when it can be kickstarted in November for free.”
