Free Rides Offer as Beryl Supports National Bike Week

Published On: 10 June 2024Last Updated: 10 June 2024By

Sustainable transport operator Beryl is encouraging people across the UK to embrace Bike Week by offering new riders a complimentary 15-minute pedal or e-bike ride when they sign up this week.

This annual event celebrates the numerous benefits of cycling, including its positive impact on personal health, community wellbeing, and the environment.

Beryl’s Contribution to Sustainable Transport

Since launching their first share scheme in 2019, Beryl has facilitated over 4.5 million shared bike journeys, covering nearly 12.5 million kilometres. These journeys have generated approximately 1.8 million hours of physical activity, contributing to significant health benefits. Moreover, Beryl’s efforts have helped save around 207 tonnes of carbon emissions across the UK.

Phil Ellis, CEO and co-founder of Beryl, highlights the advantages of their bikes and e-bikes, stating, “Our bikes and e-bikes are a fun, convenient, healthy, sustainable, and cost-effective way to get around the towns and cities that we serve. If you haven’t given shared transport a try yet, then Bike Week is the perfect opportunity to have a go, especially with your first fifteen minutes for free.”

Positive Impacts of Cycling

Ellis further emphasises the broader benefits of cycling, noting that adopting more sustainable transport habits can significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by lowering harmful carbon emissions. Additionally, increased physical activity levels from cycling are beneficial for both mental and physical health. “With the warmer weather and longer days upon us, why not give it a try?” Ellis adds.

Beryl’s Success in Promoting Cycling

The latest Beryl Annual Rider Report, based on a survey conducted last summer, revealed that 53% of respondents now cycle ‘more often’ or ‘much more often’ since they started using Beryl. This statistic underscores the success of Beryl’s initiatives in promoting cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transport.
