Hospitality Action Brings Walk for Wellbeing to Cornwall for the First Time

Hospitality Action has announced that Cornwall will host its first-ever Walk for Wellbeing on Sunday 19th October, with entries now open.

The 20km walk, set at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, will take participants through the historic gardens before finishing with a BBQ. The event is part of the charity’s growing national campaign to support mental health and wellbeing in hospitality.

Step-by-Step Guide to Wellbeing Released

Alongside the walk, Hospitality Action has published its third Step-by-Step Guide, focusing on “Activating Wellbeing in Hospitality”. The guide highlights practical ways for businesses and individuals to improve employee mental health through movement, connection and balance.

Mark Lewis, Chief Executive at Hospitality Action, said:
“Hospitality is one of the UK’s most exciting and rewarding industries, but it’s also very demanding. Our new Step-by-Step Guide is designed to move the conversation on from awareness to action. It offers practical, achievable ideas that can help leaders and teams improve their physical health, strengthen connections and create a workplace culture where wellbeing is a priority.”

Louise Eade, Head of Hospitality at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, added:
“The Step-by-Step Guide outlines how movement can boost wellbeing in hospitality. This year, Cornwall joins the Walk for Wellbeing family for the very first time, with a historical garden route that provides the perfect setting to support our mental and physical health together.”

National Expansion

Now in its sixth year, Walk for Wellbeing is expanding with Cornwall, Edinburgh, Newcastle and York hosting for the first time. The nationwide schedule begins in York on Sunday 12th October, followed by Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Cornwall, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Manchester on Sunday 19th October, before finishing in Newcastle on Monday 20th October.

For those unable to attend in person, the flexible ‘Walk It Your Way’ option runs from World Mental Health Day on Friday 10th October through to Sunday 26th October, allowing participants to join in from anywhere.

The walk is powered by mum and supported by Caterer.com, Imperial London Hotels and Sona.

Addressing Industry Challenges

Hospitality Action’s latest Taking the Temperature survey found that while 78% of employees now feel more comfortable talking about mental health than they did five years ago, issues such as understaffing, heavy workloads and poor life balance continue to have a negative effect.

The guide points towards solutions such as Hospitality Action’s Employee Assistance Programme, which provides 24/7 confidential support, financial guidance and counselling for anyone working in the sector. It also encourages employers to embrace movement and connection, from simple team walks to informal gatherings, to create healthier workplace cultures.

The Step-by-Step Guide is available to download now and offers a resource for hospitality businesses of all sizes.
