Women’s Argyle Fit Football League Launches in Penzance

A new women only football league aimed at supporting weight loss and healthier lifestyles is kicking off in Cornwall this week.

Following the success of its men’s programme, Healthy Cornwall has teamed up with Plymouth Argyle to trial a women’s Argyle Fit football league.

Eight Weeks of Free Sessions

The free programme runs for eight weeks and is open to women aged 18 and over with a BMI of 28 or above. No previous football experience is required.

Sessions will initially take place at Humphry Davey School, with the potential for more locations to be added if the trial proves popular.

The sessions are held on Wednesdays, with the first taking place on Wednesday 7th January from 6.30pm to 8pm.

What Participants Can Expect

Craig Manclark, Healthy Cornwall’s Locality Team Lead, said:

“Following the success of the Lionesses in recent years, Healthy Cornwall in partnership with Plymouth Argyle Community Trust are delighted to announce a trial of a Women’s only Argyle Fit football programme.

“Plymouth Argyle community coaches and Healthy Cornwall’s team combine to provide motivation and a friendly indoor football league alongside healthy lifestyle advice to help make changes and improve your physical fitness and mental wellbeing.

“If you or any female you know are interested in getting a little fitter and understanding more about how to manage and maintain a healthier weight this could be just the kick off your 2026 needed!”

Support From Cornwall Council

Cllr Thalia Marrington, Cornwall Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Health, added:

“This is a fantastic programme and an open goal for women out there looking to embrace a healthier lifestyle in 2026. I would urge as many as possible to sign up and take advantage of free training from a top football club. There’s nothing to lose apart from that unwanted weight!

“If football’s not your thing, Healthy Cornwall also offers a host of other options, which can help you live a happier, healthier lifestyle all year round. Find out more at healthycornwall.org.uk.”
