A Fun Day in the Sun: Oddfellows Enjoy Summer Gathering at Coronation Park

Published On: 30 August 2024Last Updated: 30 August 2024By

Members of the Plymouth & Truro District Oddfellows Friendship Groups recently enjoyed a bright and sunny day out at Helston’s Coronation Park and Boating Lake. The event, which has become something of an annual tradition, brought together individuals from across the district for a day filled with relaxation, history, and nature.

A Historic Setting

The gathering took place at Coronation Park, a site with significant historical importance. Established in 1912 to commemorate the Coronation of King George V, the park and its picturesque boating lake have long been a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike. As part of the day’s activities, attendees received a brief history of the park, learning about its origins and the significance of its establishment over a century ago.

A Day of Fun and Friendship

The Oddfellows, known for their commitment to fostering community and friendship, made sure the day was both enjoyable and inclusive. Members indulged in tea, coffee, and ice creams while soaking up the summer sun. For those looking for a bit of activity, a walk around the lake was organised, offering participants the chance to admire the wide variety of birds that call the area home.

As always, the ever-popular Oddfellows puzzle sheets were distributed, providing a little extra entertainment for members to take away and enjoy at their leisure.

Open to All

The Oddfellows Friendship Groups, which meet regularly in locations including Plymouth, Truro, and Redruth, continue to welcome new members. Established in 1810, the society prides itself on being open to people of all ages and genders, providing a wide range of social activities and support to its members.

For those interested in joining or seeking more information, enquiries can be directed to the District Secretary, Peter English. He can be reached by phone on 01209 200810, by email at peter.english@oddfellows.co.uk, or by post at The Oddfellows Hall, 49 Green Lane, Redruth TR15 1LL. Additional details about the society and its offerings can also be found on the Oddfellows website.

This annual August meet at Coronation Park continues to be a highlight for the Oddfellows Friendship Groups, embodying the spirit of community and camaraderie that the society has cherished for over two centuries.
