From Crime to Creativity: Cash Seized by Police Helps Helston Kids’ Craft Club
Devon & Cornwall Police are turning the tables on criminals by using seized money to support young people in Helston.
£500 Boost for CAST
The neighbourhood police team recently awarded £500 of illegally earned cash to CAST (Cornubian Arts & Science Trust) to build a new display area for artwork created by children at its craft club. The work will showcase models, paintings and pottery made during the sessions.
A Space for Young People
The free weekly Saturday sessions bring together more than 40 children aged 11 to 16 from different backgrounds and have been running in the heart of the community for several years.
Police Community Support Officer Julia Berry said:
“Not only is the club a place that encourages young people to be creative, but it also supports them in growing their social skills and self-confidence. I’m pleased we were able to support this fantastic club and the work they do to form positive relationships with young people in Helston.”
Criminal Cash Reinvested Locally
The money comes from the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) fund, which contains funds seized from criminality. Police in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly continue to support groups, projects and charities in the local area through this scheme.
