New Fitness Programme Launched for Seniors at Helston Sports Centre

Helston Sports Centre is rolling out an exciting new opportunity for seniors to get active this autumn with the launch of its all-new Seniors’ Club on Thursday, 19th September at 10 am.

A Day Full of Activities

The Seniors’ Club promises a variety of activities designed to encourage fitness and social interaction among older adults. Attendees can look forward to a “Legs, Bums and Tums” workout at 10:30 am, a swimming session at 10:40 am, and a yoga class at 1 pm. These sessions cater to different fitness levels and provide an excellent way to stay active in a supportive environment.

In addition to the physical activities, there will be free tea, coffee, and fruit available over lunchtime, offering a chance for participants to relax and socialise. For those who enjoy a more leisurely pace, there will also be an opportunity to play some board games.

Local Councillor in Support

Mike Thomas, Independent Cornwall Councillor for Helston North, will be attending the event. As a regular gym-goer in his sixties, Mike is a strong advocate for the importance of staying active, especially for older adults. “Exercise at our age is essential for our physical and mental health,” said Mike. “A visit to the gym or swimming pool boosts our endorphins and makes us feel so much happier. I always notice how happy people sound and look as they leave the centre.”

Get Involved

The Helston Sports Centre is managed by GLL, a not-for-profit social enterprise operating under the Better brand on behalf of Cornwall Council. Amelia Kitchen, GLL’s Senior Manager in Helston and west Cornwall, encourages anyone interested to come along. “National guidance indicates being physically active for between 30 and 150 minutes a week is good for your health, so why not give our new Seniors’ Club a go? It’s a great opportunity to meet other people from the local community, whilst also getting fitter at a pace that suits you.”

For more details and to book your spot at the Seniors’ Club launch event, visit the Helston Sports Centre website. A variety of membership and pay-as-you-go options are available.

Don’t miss out on this chance to enhance your well-being and connect with others in your community.
