The Basement Opens in Helston with Half-Term Activities for Young People
Helston’s newest venue, The Basement, is launching with a packed half-term programme of free and low-cost activities designed to get young people involved and inspired. Running from 20th October to 1st November, the new youth space will offer everything from roller and silent discos to surf skate sessions and spooky film screenings – all right in the heart of Helston.
A Space That’s Already Making Waves
The Basement has already drawn big crowds, with two sell-out events ahead of its full opening. Local artists M2 and Josh Taylor brought energy to an explosive opening night, while the theatre performance I’m Muslamic Don’t Panic – which mixed spoken word and breakdancing – left audiences buzzing.
WILD Arrives This Half Term
As part of the launch celebrations, the venue will host WILD, a new theatre production by Black Country Touring in partnership with Carn to Cove.
The show explores what ‘wild’ really means, weaving together stories from more than 70 people and taking audiences on a journey through hills, forests, mountains and cities. Featuring original music, immersive soundscapes and powerful storytelling, WILD promises to be an emotional experience that asks: What is your ‘Wild’?
Tickets for WILD are free for everyone aged 18 and under, with subsidised options available for accompanying adults.

Your Voice, Your Space
The Basement is also encouraging young people to get directly involved by joining a Youth Advisory Board. Members will help shape the future of the venue by choosing bands, DJs and events that matter most to them.
Jonathan Bray from The Basement said:
“We’re not just opening a venue – we’re handing young people the keys to their own creative future. This is about empowerment, community, and giving Helston’s youth a space that truly belongs to them.”
Safe, Supervised and Supported
Backed by South Kerrier Alliance, The Basement offers a safe and supervised environment where young people can explore new interests, express themselves creatively and connect with others.
