Trevassack Lake Cafe Set for Grand Reopening Under Children’s Sailing Trust Management

Published On: 15 February 2024Last Updated: 15 February 2024By

The much-anticipated reopening of the Trevassack Lake Cafe (TLC) in Helston is set for Tuesday, 20th February, following a brief hiatus over the New Year for a thorough clean and a refresh of its interiors. Owned by the local charity, Children’s Sailing Trust (CST), the lakeside café is poised to welcome patrons back with its exceptional Origin coffee and delectable selection of cakes.

The closure, precipitated by the unexpected departure of the previous operators just before the festive season, presented CST with a unique opportunity. Rallying together, the team embarked on a mission to not only revamp the café but also to integrate it more closely with the charity’s work. Consequently, every purchase at the café will now directly support CST’s initiatives aimed at aiding local disadvantaged children.

Established in 1997, CST is a Cornish non-profit organisation dedicated to enriching lives through sailing and watersports. Its mission focuses on providing accessible opportunities for children from diverse and underprivileged backgrounds, enabling them to acquire vital life skills. The charity prides itself on making water-based activities available to all, irrespective of financial, physical, or mental barriers.

Jakie Jewell, CEO of Children’s Sailing Trust, emphasised the significance of the café to the charity’s broader objectives. She highlighted the collaborative efforts within the community that have been instrumental in the café’s relaunch. Notably, CST has partnered with Matt of One Blue Eye to enhance the café’s sustainability and aesthetic appeal through unique recycled plastic installations. These efforts not only contribute to the café’s sustainability but also offer Matt a platform to exhibit and sell his artwork.

Sustainability remains a core theme for the café, reflecting the environmental ethos that guided the construction of its off-grid site designed to protect the surrounding wildlife. Plans for a community kitchen garden and sourcing ingredients locally within Cornwall are a testament to CST’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement.

The return of Andrei, the café’s beloved chef, is another highlight of the reopening. Known for his culinary expertise and creative flair, Andrei’s new menus promise to delight patrons with his signature finesse and passion for every dish, including the much-loved Sunday Roasts.

Acknowledgement was also given to Tony Chown, the volunteer who played a crucial role in refurbishing the café’s furniture, ensuring a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests.

As part of its grand reopening, the fully accessible CST headquarters at Trevassack will be open to the public. Alongside the café, the site offers watersports activities for individuals of all ages and abilities on the natural, 10-acre springwater lake. More information about the reopening and the café’s offerings can be found on their social media channels @TrevassackLakeCafe and the CST website.
