Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes have reported a significant economic and social impact across Cornwall and the wider West region, contributing over £308 million to the UK’s economy during the last financial year. These leading housebuilders, currently constructing homes at Treledan in Saltash and Pen Bethan in Falmouth, also delivered wide-ranging community benefits as highlighted in their latest Socio-Economic Footprint report.

Transforming Communities Across Cornwall and Beyond

The housebuilders created 1,588 properties across the West region, valued collectively at £461 million. Residents of these new homes spent an estimated £28.7 million in local shops and services, supporting 283 retail and service-related jobs. The companies also delivered 331 affordable homes, priced 51% below the average cost of private new builds.

As part of their commitment to sustainability and community enrichment, they established 39.2 hectares of green spaces—equivalent to 56 football pitches—and installed 2,027 species enhancements such as hedgehog highways, bat boxes, and swift nesting bricks.

Investing in Local Infrastructure and Charities

Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes contributed £11.9 million to local infrastructure through Section 106 agreements and the Community Infrastructure Levy. An additional £55.86 million was invested in physical works to benefit communities, including highway improvements and environmental projects.

In the past year, the companies supported the creation of 218 school places, donated over £319,000 to charities, and logged 1,311 employee volunteering hours.

Boosting Employment and Training Opportunities

With a focus on developing careers in the construction industry, the housebuilders hired 42 graduates, apprentices, and trainees, adding £458,000 to the economy. Furthermore, they worked with 1,366 subcontractor and supplier companies, generating a £281 million spend that supported local jobs.

These latest figures reinforce our commitment to creating not just homes, but opportunities for people and businesses alike.”
