Despite a stormy Christmas and New Year, Tresco Abbey Garden on the Isles of Scilly has once again proven to be a remarkable haven for plant lovers. The garden, sheltered from the harsh weather, held its annual New Year flower count, revealing a vibrant display of 287 different species of exotic plants.
The 2024 count at Tresco Abbey Garden, celebrated for its unique microclimate, showcased an extraordinary variety of blooms. This event is a testament to the garden’s ability to nurture species from around the world, even during the winter months.

The garden, a hub for botanical diversity, hosts approximately 2500 species from various Mediterranean climate zones globally. This year’s count featured a wide array of species, including the usual Camellia, Aloe, and Protea blooms. Additionally, it highlighted some rarer species like the Telanthophora grandifolia from Southern Mexico’s cloud forests and the Jovellana violacea from Chile.
