Officer Carries Out Speed Checks During Lanivet School Run

A motorcycle officer from the Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team visited the village of Lanivet, just outside Bodmin, on Monday morning during the school run.

The road through the village is described as often busy, with children crossing to reach the school opposite. The officer attended at that time to provide a highly visible presence and deter drivers from speeding.

While on duty, the officer was approached by parents walking their children to school, who thanked him for being there.

Despite this, comments appeared on social media accusing the officer of “hiding behind the bus stop”. The Road Safety Team said this was one of many inaccurate posts made in an attempt to discredit their work, noting that the bus stop in question was around 60 metres down the road.

The team added that the officer was carrying out speed checks aimed at protecting vulnerable children, and said it was disappointing that such actions had attracted negative online commentary.

The visit took place on Monday 9th February 2026 during the morning school run.
