Truro Farmers Market is set to celebrate St Piran’s Day in style with its eagerly anticipated annual Cornish Pasty Making Competition on March 2nd, 2024. This year, the competition is spicing things up with the introduction of a brand new category, “Battle of the Bakeries,” aiming to crown the maker of the “Best Cornish Pasty 2024”.

Participants are encouraged to showcase their pasty-making prowess in two main categories: Traditional Steak or Rest of the World. The competition is open to all, inviting entries from individuals who believe their homemade pasties have what it takes to win. Entrants are required to submit their pasties at the Pasty Drop Off point on Lemon Quay before 11 am on the day of the event.

This culinary contest is not just about the perfect crimp or the tastiest filling; it’s a celebration of creativity and tradition. Judges will evaluate entries based on a variety of criteria, ensuring a fair and delicious competition. With the stakes higher than ever, participants are vying for an array of prizes generously donated by local businesses, including The Cornish Italian, Plaza Cinema Truro, The Tapyard Riverside, and more.

For the first time, bakeries have a special opportunity to compete in dedicated categories: Best Traditional Steak and Best Vegan Pasty. This inclusion allows local bakeries to demonstrate their culinary skills and compete for the prestigious title in both categories.

As Truro Farmers Market prepares for St Piran’s Day, the community buzzes with anticipation for the Cornish Pasty Making Competition. Whether you’re a seasoned pasty maker or a newcomer to the scene, this event promises fun, flavour, and the chance to be crowned the maker of Cornwall’s Best Cornish Pasty for 2024. Further details about the competition and how to enter will be announced soon, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate in this cherished local tradition.
