Simon Mahon Joins Watergate Bay Hotel & Businesses As Chief Operating Officer
Watergate Bay Hotel, along with its sister businesses Another Place, SeaSpace, and Beach Retreats, has announced Simon Mahon as its new Chief Operating Officer, effective from 4th November. Simon brings with him over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry.
A New Era for Watergate Bay Businesses
Following a year of significant growth—including the opening of Another Place, The Machrie, and The Brackenrigg Inn in Ullswater—Watergate Bay continues its evolution with the appointment of Simon Mahon. Simon, a seasoned hotelier, joins the team with a passion for driving change and enhancing the guest experience.
His previous role at the award-winning The Grand, York, along with his recognition as a Master Innholder, St Julian Scholar, and Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, highlights Simon’s expertise in managing multi-asset international brands. Now, he is set to bring his vast experience to Watergate Bay and its associated businesses.

Ben Harper, CEO, expressed enthusiasm for Simon’s appointment, noting that after doubling the size of the business in 2024, the company has ambitious plans for 2025 and beyond. Ben believes Simon’s leadership will bring new thinking and expertise to help the business grow further.
Simon officially steps into his new role on 4 November, with one of his first tasks being to recruit a new general manager for Watergate Bay Hotel.
