25 Years of Commitment: Launceston College Praises Long-Serving Staff
Launceston College, part of Athena Learning Trust, is celebrating a major milestone this month as two of its staff members mark 25 years of service. Sherry Symons and Tim Naylor, both long-time employees of the college, have made significant contributions to the school community, impacting the lives of countless students over the years.
Supporting Students in Need
Sherry Symons, who works in the Student Support Team, has played a vital role in supporting some of the most vulnerable young people at Launceston College. Over the years, she has worked closely with students with Special Educational Needs (SEND), helping them thrive in education by providing the care and attention they need. Sherry’s dedication and commitment to these students have made a lasting difference, ensuring they have the support to succeed. She lives locally in Launceston with her husband, Mark, and is well-known among her colleagues for her kindness and baking skills.
Principal Matthew Thompson praised Sherry, saying, “Sherry is such a valued colleague as well as being kind, reliable, and a wonderful baker. The huge impact she has had on the lives of the students she helps is immeasurable.”
A Legacy in Design Technology
Tim Naylor, who currently works as a technician in the Design Technology Department, began his career at Launceston College as a Learning Support Assistant. Over the years, he has supported many students, and his own children, who both attended the college, have followed in his footsteps. One now holds a Masters in design, while the other is pursuing a degree apprenticeship with defence giant Babcock. In his free time, Tim enjoys fishing at Crawley reservoir.
Matthew Thompson also spoke highly of Tim, stating, “Tim is outstanding at everything he does in the department and is super approachable to all. So many members of staff across the college rely on him for his expertise and friendship.”
Celebrating a Quarter-Century of Service
Sherry and Tim were both delighted to receive gifts and cards from their colleagues in recognition of their 25 years of dedicated service. Their long-standing commitment to Launceston College is a testament to the supportive and welcoming environment the school fosters for both staff and students.
Launceston College is rated Good by Ofsted in key areas including Quality of education, Behaviour and attitudes, Personal development, Leadership and management, and Sixth form provision. Ofsted inspectors highlighted the college’s commitment to providing a broad and ambitious curriculum for all pupils, including those with SEND.
For those interested in applying for a place at Launceston College, applications for secondary school places are open until 31st October. Additionally, Launceston Sixth is holding an open evening on Thursday, 14th November from 6pm to 8pm.
