Appeal After Sexual Assault Reported Near Launceston College

Police are appealing for witnesses and footage following a sexual assault in Launceston.

Officers were called at around 9.20pm on Sunday 25th January after a report that a 17 year old girl had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man in an alleyway near Launceston College.

The victim managed to escape when the assault was disturbed by a dog walker.

Police response

Patrol units and the force helicopter were deployed shortly after the report was made.

Following immediate enquiries, a man in his 30s was located a short time later and arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He remains in police custody at this time.

Police are asking anyone with information or footage that may be relevant to the investigation to come forward.
