Egloskerry Primary Teachers Honoured in National Teaching Awards
Bronze Awards from the Pearson National Teaching Awards shine spotlight on outstanding educators
Two teachers from Egloskerry Primary School, part of the Athena Learning Trust, have received national recognition for their exceptional work in the classroom.
Mrs Charlwood and Miss Flintoff were both awarded Bronze in the 2025 Pearson National Teaching Awards in the Primary Teacher of the Year category. The awards celebrate teachers across the UK who have made a significant impact on their pupils and wider school communities.
A Track Record of Excellence
Mrs Charlwood has played a key role in improving early reading and literacy standards at the school. Her engaging teaching methods have helped Egloskerry Primary achieve a 100% pass rate in the phonics screening check for three consecutive years.
In addition to reading, she’s known for her skill in teaching complex maths concepts and for mentoring colleagues. She also organises enriching experiences to broaden children’s learning beyond the classroom.
Making a Mark in Just One Year
Despite being at the school for just a year, Miss Flintoff has already made a “transformative difference.” Her classroom is described as a space filled with kindness, curiosity and courage, helping children grow in confidence as readers and mathematicians.
Her influence has also reached beyond her own classroom, supporting teachers across the Athena Learning Trust in delivering high-quality maths teaching.
Recognition from the Top
The Pearson National Teaching Awards were founded in 1998 by Lord Puttnam and are one of the most prestigious honours in the UK education sector.
Lynsey Slater, Principal at Egloskerry Primary, said:
“We are incredibly proud of Mrs Charlwood and Miss Flintoff for this richly deserved recognition. Their passion, innovation, and belief in every child’s potential truly embody the spirit of our school. These awards highlight just how lucky we are to have such extraordinary teachers leading the way.”
School Rated Highly by Ofsted
Egloskerry Primary School has been rated Good by Ofsted for education, behaviour and attitudes, and early years provision. The school is also rated Outstanding for personal development and leadership and management.
Inspectors found that pupils feel well cared for, are ambitious and confident, and know their teachers have high expectations of them.
