Liskeard Leisure Centre Pool Reopens After £400k Transformation – Here’s What’s Changed

Liskeard Leisure Centre’s swimming pool and changing rooms have fully reopened following a £400,000 refurbishment, marking the first significant improvements to the facility in two decades.

Major Refurbishment Completed

The renovation work, which began in November, focused on relining the pool tank and surrounding areas with resin to help preserve the facility for the future. The wet side changing rooms also received a full makeover, creating a fresher and more modern environment for visitors.

“It’s the first time in twenty years that significant improvements have been made to the pool area, and we’re excited to see them complete and the whole area fully functioning again,” said Brett Price, the centre’s general manager.

“The tank lining is important in preserving the life of the swimming pool, and the changing rooms are now much fresher in feel and appearance.”

More Upgrades Coming in March

Liskeard Leisure Centre, which has been operated by GLL under the Better brand on behalf of Cornwall Council since 2017, is also set to benefit from additional improvements in the coming months.

Just before Christmas, Sport England awarded the facility £175,448 in funding to install photovoltaic solar panels and pool covers. This work is scheduled to take place in March, further enhancing the centre’s sustainability efforts.

Customers Welcomed Back

James Curry, Head of Service for GLL in Cornwall, expressed appreciation for visitors’ patience during the temporary closure.

“I’m grateful to our customers for their patience during the area’s temporary closure and have no doubt they’ll see a real and very positive difference,” he said.

“This is the time of year when people want to get fitter, and swimming in a pool like Liskeard’s is a great way of achieving that.”
